1-4 – There is no @
Friday, January 12th, 2007Craig: This is one of my favorite pages.
J.D.: The events of this page actually happened to my brother the first time he tried to play Angband.
Craig: I usually play half-orc priests, and so I try not to kill townsfolk. Even so, I still manage to mow down at least a hundred by the time I hit level 30.
J.D.: Me, on the other hand, I tend to play high-elf rangers. And there was a time when my favored way of dealing with packs of Filthy Street Urchins was to Stinking Cloud them from across town. Then you made me feel guilty, so I stopped.
Craig: “Look! It’s Nadi! Flee for your lives! Aaaaaaaaahhhh—*”
J.D.: ๐
Craig: I do hate the street urchins though. Sometimes it takes all my willpower not to Orb of Draining them all when they swarm me.
J.D.: Just repeat to yourself: “I’m a priest. I’m a priest.” I remember making Lucky’s observation the first time I played.
Craig: I remember that. You were playing Moria.
J.D.: In the computer lab. I think you had set it up for me. I used to play a lot of half-orc warriors at the time.
Craig: Yeah, you used to mine by tunneling through walls with your 18/00 strength and a broadsword. Picks? Bah!
J.D.: I didn’t need one! But I do remember if the room was dark, it was dark. I didn’t have any way of making the room light. I didn’t have any spells. Interestingly, the one half-orc warrior that survived past level 5 — I think it was my third character — is still alive. We just switched to Angband so I never finished the game with her.
Craig: It was Moria. You knew how the game was going to end. It was only a matter of time before you were a half-orc stain on the dungeon wall.
J.D.: You don’t know that!

“There is no @” is by far the best panel in the comic thus far. Just today I set it as my background. ๐

So cool! It’s awesome to know that Lucky is adorning your desktop. ๐

This was the page that originally got me really likeing the comic. I love cartoons and comics that go into games with outside characters.

The “There is no @”, while some view as cliched is my most memorable line from Penance. I second Nameless and am going to put Lucky on my desktop too.
I actually laughed out loud when I read this comic the first time, chuckled a bit this time. Good stuff guys. ๐
PS- Haha! I just noticed the graffiti. That’s awesome! Only thing missing from that building is a subliminal 7 somewhere… unless I’m missing it.

I like this one a lot, too… For me, though, Lucky is no desktop girl. And I guess my favourite bit of Penance is the one where Leon’s character is crushed by Pukarith… ;-)รยจ
