Why? As far as I understand, Wanderer meant Lucky’s professors at his mage school. Lucky seems to have survived quite long with his Phial! But doesn’t he waste his healing potion? Wouldn’t it be better to drink it during the battle?
Hahaha, wow. Wanderer knows how to persuade Lucky even with Lucky being so set on role playing. I think Leon is going to be happy to find a more well equipped student when he gets back. The scratches on (and through) the robe add to the comic. It’s always those little things.
Hahaha. Good point. Those black dragons early… RNG loves me, so I never have the second problem. That’s why it took so long for me to get a winner. 😛
Okay, as much as I love this comic I’ve never actually played a roguelike (or possibly very little, a long time ago). It may not matter, but can someone explain “just no gloves until you find Free Action”?
Yeah, I didn’t understand it either, although I played lots of roguelikes, and even one Angband variant roughly 8 years ago 🙂 Thanks for explanation.

D*mn, now I have urge to play bookless hobbit mage… wait, didn’t I already do that? I know I did bookless hobbit ranger.
Anyway, it is nice to have Penance back. It revitalizes my angband addiction.

I love the interaction here. The first panel made me giggle with empathy. 🙂

hmmm…. “professors” makes me wonder if Wanderer knows Lucky IRL.
At the same time, given the nature of this comic, the answer to that last question may very well be “no.”

I like how the healing potion fixes the garments, too…..scratches before, none after.

Angband/Mythband armor never wears out. =D

Maverick: It does if it gets doused with enough acid, or blasted by a vengeful RNG! 🙂

Mages feel that their covered hands are unsuitable for spellcasting, in other words it reduces mana and increases failure rates.
With gloves that provide free action this doesn’t count (Free action=immunity for paralysis)

Another way to prevent that penalty is wear gloves that provide Dexterity bonus.
In Angband that is. There are a lot of roguelikes, and not all of them have these restrictions. Mythband is much like Angband.
