Make sure to check out the comments on last week’s page — we approved a lot of new posts today.

Also, J.D. and I have provided commentary for pages 3-28 “Enough” and 3-29 “Excellent Drops.”  Enjoy!

    Hi guys,

Just found your comic today and love it! I especially like the parody names (for Angband, Gollem, Diablo, etc.) I must say that I decided years ago that if I ever made a variant, I’d call it Mythband, but it looks like you beat me to it. Now I need to find a new name (not to mention the time to actually make do the programming)…

    Keep up the good work!

  2. Ojomax Says:

Liked this one. Special thanks for the clear Ignatius hand in panel 1. 😉

  3. Charles Says:

    OHO! SHOW ME THE MONEY!

This is just too good. And I die less here than playing Angband 😀

At least I can survive awhile in Nethack. But this would be like dealing with, erm, Gothmog at the town level, maybe?

Beats writing a thesis at quarter to five AM!

  4. Charles Says:

    BTW

    mor[s][tis] is Latin for death
    mega is Greek for big
uth can derove here from Hebrew muth = death or even -oth as in Behem-oth, the ueber-nasty form of a beast, behemah, signifying with Leviathan the incarnation of Satan.

Death, really big, bad death, known so well that people, after the confusion of languages in the ancient Mesopotamian city of Bab-elu, the Gate of Heaven, where man wanted to grasp God, still remember the ancient horror even in the shattered motes of their later tongues.

    Welcome to the primal nightmare!

  5. Timo Says:

If Morgoth is here what is in mythband? I’m guessing few possible plotlines here. And connection to Leon.

  6. Astronautty Says:

Note the mark over the ‘E’ in Mor-megauth. Thus “more-me-goth” is a likely pronunciation.

Hmm, Tera drops her purse. Odd the way that it falls, given that it was over her shoulder & across her body. Did the strap break? More importantly, is there anything important in there that will survive this coming battle?

And is Argaddon dead? The masked one is clearly distressed, but even Tera (who should be blank-faced) looks to be frowning slightly in panel 1. Is she empathetic to her master while dominated? Or is it just an extra pixel or two spoiling the effect?

  7. Maverick Says:

Uh-oh. Rex Caligo/Mor-mégauth has just revealed his identity. Ignatius now knows exactly who and what he is, but Rex has no idea who or what Ignatius is. I get the feeling Rex is a little overconfident right now and is underestimating Ignatius. Even so, I don’t have a clue how much power Ignatius wields, but I get the feeling he is not one to stick around and fight a battle he knows he will lose. He knows who Mor-mégauth is and how powerful he is, but he still is going to battle him. I have a hunch all of Rex’s deceived minions are going to come into play here.

I believe Astronautty is correct on the pronunciation of Mor-mégauth. I am inclined to agree with Timo on who he is as well…
